Happy Helpers for the Homeless

Who do we serve?

The homeless and poor in Baltimore City through our partner, Happy Helpers for the Homeless (HHH).

What do we do?

Provide non-perishable food on a monthly basis; toiletries and socks two or three times a year; stuffed animals and blankets at Christmas.

When do we do it?

The third Sunday of every month from 1-4 pm (except November and February when the Men's Club sponsors the outreach).

Where do we serve?

Monthly, at Our Daily Bread headquarters in Baltimore City.

Several times a year, onsite at Resurrection.

Ministry history

Resurrection has partnered with Happy Helpers almost since it began 25 years ago.  Happy Helpers was started by Amber Coffman when she was only 10 years old. Earlier in our ministry, various groups of young people at Resurrection would make sandwiches in the church hall before traveling together into Baltimore to assist with distribution. We are no longer able to distribute sandwiches, so we take pre-packaged food for the clients.

How can I get involved?

Contact Colleen Guler: colleenguler@gmail.com to volunteer to:

  • Help distribute food and clothes and toiletries at Our Daily Bread. Volunteers* earn four hours of direct service time. Leave from Resurrection Multipurpose Link at 1 pm and returns at 4 pm.

  • Donate socks and seasonal toiletries;

  • Help stuff socks with toiletries; or,

  • Volunteer to help with special Christmas wrapping and gift distribution.

*Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed permission slip or have a parent or guardian accompany them. Depending on the number of volunteers going downtown, transportation may or may not be provided. (Often, parents choose to drive their own children.)
